As an experienced music teacher, writer, recording artist and performer Kevin Shima brings enthusiasm, motivation and knowledge to his lessons. He is a master guitar teacher with 6 years of experience in this field, but Kevin can also teach drums, piano and the basics of song writing and audio recording to his students. Kevin has experience teaching music at the collegiate, high school and middle school levels.
Kevin Shima began writing and recording songs at the young age of 14. He was talented and creative enough to play drums, guitar, bass, keyboards and vocals on all recordings. He then went to Bloomington, Indiana to study audio production and music theory/history at Indiana University. While there he co-founded the rock band Homunculus (www.homunculture.com), with whom he wrote and produced 4 albums over 8 years. Homunculus performed an average of 150 shows a year (nationally), and opened for bands such as The Roots, Cracker, Matthew Sweet, Cowboy Junkies, G-love and Special Sauce, and Barenaked Ladies.

Kevin is a positive, motivated teacher who is happy to teach all levels and ages. However, guitar is best started by students who are 10 and up for physical reasons. There are always exceptions to this and Kevin is willing to offer a free introductory consultation for students who may be a little younger and want to do guitar.

Cost of Lessons with Kevin:
Weekly 30 minute lessons in the studio - $110.00 per month
Weekly 45 minute lessons in the studio - $165.00 per month
Weekly 1 hour lessons in the studio - $220.00 per month
Weekly 1 hour lessons20in home - $280.00 per month. (Minimum of 1 hour lessons must be scheduled for in home lessons)
