Ali Helnwein

Composer/Conductor/Violinist/

Ali Helnwein was born Vienna, Austria
in 1982. Since his childhood he has been exposed to the arts - his father being famed artist Gottfried Helnwein and his siblings successfully involved in the fields of literature and visual arts.

He apprenticed at Media Ventures (Hans Zimmer's film music studio) for a year and under orchestrator/ arranger/ conductor David Campbell (who worked on over 400 Gold and Platinum albums) for 6 years. In this time he learned the arts of orchestration, composition and conducting

As a violinist he has played in various groups of diverse styles: jazz, klezmer, rock, swing jazz, traditional Irish music, classical music and more. His experience in the field of classical violin includes playing in a full symphony orchestra
where he performed at venues such as the Disney Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and Kodak Theater.

In the spring of 2006 he started the Traction Avenue Chamber Orchestra, a Downtown Los Angeles chamber orchestra which he conducts and which has performed at prestigious venues such as the Herbert Zipper Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. Through the Traction Avenue Chamber Orchestra and his company, Strayed Dogs, LLC, Ali has been actively putting on events to draw new audiences to classical music. He now works as a composer, writing for independent films and classical music for concert repertoire and recordings.

His music has been played by many top notch musicians, including principal members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and Pasadena Symphony.
It is Ali's mission to help keep alive the art of classical music by bringing new audiences to it and, aside from his own work as a composer, helping other talented young composers and
musicians.
